Overview

One of the most beautiful driving routes in Kefalonia starts from the port of Argostoli towards to Assos peninsula and Myrtos Bay on the northern part if the island. Assos is a tiny hamlet of pastel-colored houses with a population of just one hundred. It nestles, at the base of a hill on a small peninsula, on the north-west coast of Kefalonia and is surrounded on three sides by the stunning blue of the Mediterranean Sea. The village is almost hidden amidst thick pine forest, ringed by tall cypress trees and overlooked by a ruined 16th-century castle built high on the peninsula by the Venetians who then governed the island. It has a pebble beach and small marina lined with traditional restaurants. Wonder around the village, swim at the little pebbly beach or walk up to the remains of the Venetian Castle.
