Overview

    Via the online platform Zoom we'll join you for 90 minutes from our home Salvador, Brazil -- the (arguable) home of samba -- and take you on a virtual musical voyage with a working musician who has played and taught samba professionally in Salvador for 20+ years.

    Your guides on this virtual adventure are Bira and Jen.

    Bira is an internationally-recognized music professor, having taught percussion to musicians of all levels for over 20 years. As a proud Afro-Brazilian, he is a specialist in the rhythms of the state of Bahia — including the samba.

    I (Jen) moved to Salvador in 2015 and have been playing in a samba-reggae band, Movimento Percussivo, since 2017. I share Bira’s passion for Salvador and unlocking the mysteries of this amazing city and culture.
