Corinth city played a significant political, financial and cultural role in the ancient times and constituted an important trade center. Corinth lies on the northeast Peloponnese which was once connected to the Greek mainland through the Isthmos, a 6 km strip of land. Only in the late 19th century the long-lasting idea of dugging a canal that slits the Isthmos and connects the Saronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth was accomplished. Nowadays, the bridge over the Corinth Canal gives us easy access to the Peloponnese. Arriving at the archaeological sites in Corinth we can admire some exceptional monuments such as the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Agora and the Roman Odeion and of course explore the “Acrocorinth”, the Acropolis of ancient Corinth that was dedicated to the Greek Goddess Aphrodite. We can later visit the Daphni Monastery and admire its impressive byzantine mosaic adornment. On our way back, we can stop at Loutraki and enjoy some moments of relaxation at its Thermal Spa.
