Traveling by private car, you’ll first journey to Zaandijk to see beautiful merchants’ houses and old public buildings. Close to town, stop in at an old weaver’s house to learn about the ancient art of sail-making. And then it’s time for a real Dutch must-see, as you visit a classic windmill and take a look inside to watch the restored grinding stones creating aromatic spices. As you walk around the town, you’ll see the old harbor & beautiful buildings like the city hall, Grotekerk, and Speeltoren musical tower, Cheese Weigh House! The foodie attractions around here aren’t limited to cheese, as you’ll see when you travel on to Volendam, a small fishing village with a long tradition of smoking its seafood.
