Founded in the 13th century by Saxons Sibiu is the most visited city of Transylvania. The Saxon name is Hermannstadt. Sibiu partnered with Luxembourg in 2007 to become European Capital of Culture. We'll take time to explore its medieval old town with churches and towers and to have coffee or beer on one of its many sunny restaurant terraces. Another highlight we won't pass by is the Open Air Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization. On a sunny day the open spaces garnered with mills and traditional houses on the background of the Carpathian Mountains are quite a spectacular site.
