Overview

When the sweltering heat of Marrakesh becomes unbearable, many Moroccans and tourists make a dash for the pleasant coolness and lush greenery in the Ourika Valley. Located just 45 minutes away from Marrakesh in the High Atlas Mountains, this valley extends from Souk Tnin Ourika to Setti Fatma, a Berber village. You can enjoy a picnic or even take on an adventurous hike to reach the renowned seven waterfalls; though it usually takes between 45 minutes - 3 hours, depending on how far you want to go. Remember to wear good walking shoes if you're going for the longer walk and don't forget to stop at one of cafes near the falls for lunch!
The valley is known for its pine and cedar forests as well as its friendly Barbary apes. The village of Setti Fatma is famous for pottery and minerals and hosts a large Berber souk every Monday.
