Stop At: Temple of Karnak, Karnak, Luxor Egypt

    Karnak temple
The Karnak Temple dates back to around 2055 BC and was used up until around 100 AD. It was constructed as a cult temple honoring the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. This building was known to be the largest religious structure ever built and thus referred to by ancient Egyptians as the "most select of places".
In its time during the New Kingdom period , power was concentrated at Thebes (modern-day Luxor) and the importance of this temple complex was reflected in its size. Along with its spiritual significance, it also acted as a treasury, administrative center, and royal palace. To this day it is considered one of the most significant temples ever created across the globe.
