Lost Emerald City Colombia Motorcycle Tour

Duration

clock4 days

Overview

Deep in the eastern portion of the Colombian Andes lies the world capital of emeralds. Formerly the most dangerous place in the world, the region was sealed off from the outside world for decades due to intense fighting. The area is now open for the first time in decades after a peace treaty with the guerilla groups was signed. Drive from Medellin through the heart of the Colombian Andes to this remote area. Cross mountain ranges, and streams. See amazing vistas and waterfalls and finally get the chance to talk with and photograph Colombian emerald miners known as "guaqueros" as they scour the riverbeds in search of emeralds. You can also pick up your own shovel and boots and try mining for your own emeralds!

Trips are led by professional travel and wildlife photographer Jeff Cremer. Before moving to Medellin, Jeff worked as a photographer in the Peruvian Amazon for six years and has had his work featured in National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Wired Magazine, and the BBC.
