Overview

We are a contemporary art museum. Our collection and exhibitions show the way in which we see the world and see ourselves: the objects corresponding to history and the society that created them; objects that are conserved, studied and enhanced with the aim of reaching a better knowledge of our environment and of ourselves. Four fundamental principles guide our work: a critical reading of history, a critical reading of the territory, the impact on the city of Medellín and the social appropriation of art. Our project was founded in 1881 as a cultural and educational project, making us one of the oldest museums in Colombia. We have one of the largest collections in the region, with 6,000 works and historical documents. Our exhibitions and our educational-community projects turn art into a fundamental tool to help us reflect our nature as a society.
