Overview
Hierapolis ("Holy City") was an ancient Greco-Roman city in Phrygia situated on hot springs in South West Anatolia. Its ruins are close to modern Pamukkale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hot springs there have been used as a spa since the 2nd Century B.C.E., and many people have come to take advantage of them for healing, retirement or even death. Highlights include the huge necropolis filled with sarcophagi; the main street with its gates and latrines; the cathedral; the theatre; and St Philip's tomb. The hot springs cause cascades which are known as "the Cotton Castle". We will need to leave early from Antalya to experience this beautiful site, but it is worth it! This tour includes lunch and entry fees for Pamukkale sights, along with convenient round-trip transportation from your hotel.
