Both the pagoda style temples, Pashupatinath in Kathmandu and Muktinath at 3,800 meters at the foot of the Thorung La Pass in Mustang region, hold top religious importance for Hindus. Muktinath is very important to Buddists as well as the Tibetan Buddhist tradition states that Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, had meditated at Muktinath on his way to Tibet. Hindus believe that lord Vishnu got salvation from curse of Brinda (wife of Jalandhar) at Muktinath. Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu also holds historical importance. It was built in the 5th century and later renovated by Malla kings, the site itself is said to have existed from the beginning of the millennium when a Shiva lingam was discovered here.
