Overview
Depart in the morning and head to Perge – the place where many of the statues that are on show at Antalya Museum were discovered. A significant city of old Parnphylia, originally set up by the Hittites circa 1500 BC, St. Paul paid a visit to Perge during his first missionary journey. The theater stage has intricately sculpted marble reliefs, and other sculptures from around town can be seen in the stadium. Hobby archaeologists will be keen to check out the handsome city gate flanked by two high towers, a lengthy colonnaded road formerly paved with mosaics and lined with stores, a large agora, public baths and gymnasium.
