Overview

    First discovered in 1830 by Emperor Dom Pedro I, Petropólis is located 68 kilometers away from the City of Rio.

    Petrópolis is one of the cities of Rio de Janeiro State. It is very important to the history of Brazil. Therefore, many of its attractions are historical, such as the Imperial Museum built between 1845 and 1864, to serve as a summer palace for the Brazilian Emperor D. Pedro II. The neoclassical architecture with a rich collection of pieces related to the monarchy that includes furniture used at the time, documents, paintings, works of art, and even personal objects that had belonged to the imperial family.

    Petrópolis has kept its charm from those glorious days, conserving the aristocratic mansions of the barons, viscounts, and earls, located near the Imperial Palace.
    Other attractions are the Quitandinha Palace, Crystal Palace, Saint Peter Cathedral, the residences of Baron of Mauá, and Princess Isabel.

    Visiting Petrópolis is a true time journey.
