Stop At: Pompeii Archaeological Park, Porta Marina (via Villa dei Misteri), 80045 Pompeii Italy
Pompeii was a city that vanished from the maps and people’s recollections since it got totally buried under ashes emitted by the volcano in 79 AD. On that fateful day, in only a few hours, life in the entire vibrant town came to a halt until rediscovered centuries later. These ruins offer an impressive picture of ancient Romans’ everyday existence and their original urban layout: homes, stores, frescoes, baths, mosaics and much more. Included on this tour is also a visit to a Cameos and Corals workshop so as to get familiar with this archaic art-craft whose Neapolitan school is still renowned. Cameos particularly are carved sea shells depicting scenes of mythological gods. A meal at local restaurant.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Vesuvius National Park, Via Palazzo del Principe, 80044 Ottaviano Italy
Continue this tour up to the summit for a short hike around the volcano’s crater. The Mt Vesuvius National Park has been named UNESCO biosphere reserve formed by the caldera of Mt Somma and Grand Cone of Mt Vesuvius; meaning one mountain within another due to its top being blown off forming new one after eruption. There have been numerous studies regarding vegetation colonization over different eras on its lava fields. Traditional agricultural sections have diverse fruits vines and blooms making it notorious for deadliest eruptions in 79 AD yet last eruption occurred during WWII in 1944 thus deemed dormant now.
