The oldest Christian monastery in the world, built in 337 AD and located at the place where “God spoke” to all with the Ten Commandments, was ordered by empress of Byzantium Elena as a chapel for Christian pilgrims and later enlarged by Emperor Justinian. It became renowned globally as the Saint Catherine’s Monastery and Burning Bush. Despite being smallest diocese in the world, it remains intact today as a subordinate to Jerusalem Church and is one of UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient structure has numerous icons, manuscripts which are priceless artifacts.

Travellers usually leave in evening to reach Mt Sinai before dawn so that they can witness sunrise from its peak among clouds.
