(3 Reviews )

Duration

clock4 to 5 hours

Overview

Visit the historic Western neighbourhood of Yokohama

Japan isolated itself from the rest of the world, from 1639 for 200 years, and finally opened its doors again in 1854. The first port that had contact with foreign countries and cultures was Yokohama. It is for this reason that Yokohama has a number of landmarks that have been heavily influenced by Western style architecture, and it holds rich maritime and cultural histories.

The Western style buildings are perched upon a hill with a magnificent view of the Port of Yokohama. Today, these historically and architecturally valuable buildings are open to the public and you can visit them for free. The hill is worth a visit, with its floral gardens, beautiful buildings and magnificent views!
