The National Archaeological Museum of Naples offers one of the richest and most complete archaeological collections in Italy and Europe. It is not to be missed as it houses the Vesuvian collections and the Farnese collection. The first contains an array of unique finds from mosaics and frescoes to sculptures and objects of everyday life that were found during excavations in cities destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae. The Farnese collection is a renowned Italian Renaissance collection that was inherited by the Bourbon family of Naples in the 1700s which includes sculptures like "Farnese Bull" or "Farnese Hercules" together with "Farnese Cup", considered as one of largest engraved gem from antiquity.
