We cross the dunes of the magical Viana desert, a true sand monument that the wind has created, then going along the ancient picturesque road we descend to the bay of Boa Esperança where there is the gutted wreck of the merchant ship Cabo Santa Maria (over 300 ships are sunk around the island, it is said because of the strong magnetism of the ground that drove the compasses crazy). Then we will arrive at the capital Sal Rei, a former salt export center, very interesting is the old port, dotted with colorful boats. Opposite is the Ilheu de Sal Rei, the islet that houses the ruins of a fort built to protect the old village from Pirates. In the central square: the Church of S. Isabella, the Municipal Market and various craft shops.
