Stop At: Temple of Philae, Island of Agilika, Aswan Egypt

The monuments of Philae house various structures originating mostly from the Ptolemaic Period (332–30 BC). The most prominent among these is a temple erected by Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285–246 BC), which was devoted to Isis, the mother of Horus, who was honored as the god of monarchy. A scene in the mammisi, or birth room, wherein the birth of Horus was celebrated, portrays Isis breastfeeding her son Horus in swamplands.
