Overview

Snap! 150 Years of Photography in Cambodia takes you right back in 1866 into an unknown and mysterious Cambodia to travel through the decades. At that time, the very first photography of Angkor Wat were taken by the Scottish photographer John Thomson and the young Frenchman Emile Gsell.

This show animated by still and moving images takes you in the heart of Cambodia’s modern history. Pictures and short archival films transport you as if you were there, from colonialism to independence, from the joyful 60’s to the Vietnam War and the Khmer Rouge struggles, and finally, to an era of peace.

To give you an engaging view of Cambodia’s modern history all the photographic libraries, private collections and the Wat Damnak Centre for Khmer Studies have been excavated to collect the most relevant photography of the Khmer’s past.

To make your experience more intimate and exclusive, each presentation is unique and slightly from the past one. It’s an evolving story as new stuff comes to light.
