The Alfa Planetarium, located in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area, is a collection of Museum, Astronomical Observatory and IMAX Dome room. It was inaugurated on October 11, 1978. It houses the fourth room installed with the IMAX system in the world, the first in the Hispanic world and the first in Latin America. [Citation needed] It is considered one of the 5 best IMAX Dome screens in the world by the GSTA (Giant Screen Theaters Association). [citation needed]
The museum is also a pioneer in Mexico in the "interactive museum" style. [citation needed]
The complex has an outdoor aviary, a Science Garden with interactive activities, an Astronomical Observatory, a five-level museum and an IMAX Dome room with capacity for 389 people.
In the lobby of the museum is the monumental metal mural "El Espejo", by Mexican artist Manuel Felguerez.
