Shiogama City is home to the port boasting Japan's largest catch of fresh tuna. Much of the tuna that is sold at auction in larger cities like Tokyo is actually first caught and auctioned in Shiogama. This makes the tuna sold in Shiogama some of the freshest you can find in the country! Although direct access to the auction is restricted to the public, you will be able to watch the auction from the upstairs gallery before sampling some of the fresh seafood for breakfast at the nearby local seafood market.
