Desiderio, the last king of the Lombards, founded the Benedictine monastery of San Salvatore with his wife Ansa in 753. Over the centuries the monumental complex was enriched with buildings dedicated to the cult and life of the community. UNESCO World Heritage Site, the former monastery tells the story of Brescia through 12,000 extraordinary works and buildings such as: an archaeological area with two domus, the Longobard Basilica of San Salvatore, the Nuns' Choir and the Romanesque Oratory of Santa Maria in Solario where the nuns kept the treasure of the monastery, of which the Lipsanoteca and the Croce di Desiderio still remain.
