The construction of its ancient nucleus – now partially restored following both restoration and archaeological investigation – was due to Charles I of Anjou, who in 1266 defeated the Swabians and ascended Sicily’s throne by relocating the capital from Palermo to Naples.

    At the end of your walking tour you will start your journey beneath ground level in Naples; you will uncover mysteries hidden within an old Bourbon Gallery commissioned by Ferdinand II of Bourbon as a military pathway allowing troops quick access to reach his Royal Palace.

    The Bourbon Gallery is a long underground tunnel built during mid-19th century times by Ferdinand II of Bourbon and is regarded as one of civil engineerings greatest subterranean achievements from that era. Re-discovered in 2005 it provides visitors with an amazing route through history located deep below ground along with othe surprises such as war shelters, remnants from Aqueduct Bolla cisterns , fragments originating from statues plus vintage cars and motorcycles discovered during safety checks.
