You will appreciate the exterior of a majestic castle that overlooks the port of Naples on one side and looms over one of the city’s most renowned squares on the other. The construction of its ancient nucleus – now partially restored following both restoration and archaeological investigation – was due to Charles I of Anjou, who in 1266 defeated the Swabians and ascended Sicily’s throne by relocating the capital from Palermo to Naples.

At the end of your walking tour you will start your journey beneath ground level in Naples; you will uncover mysteries hidden within an old Bourbon Gallery commissioned by Ferdinand II of Bourbon as a military pathway allowing troops quick access to reach his Royal Palace.
