Overview

It is well known that the artist-run centre continues to be an important part of the Canadian art ecosystem, and Quebec is no different. The Mile End is teeming with artists and art galleries, as it has continued to be home to one of the largest concentrations of artists in North America. Venture through the lush streets of this area and learn about the musicians-,- artist-s,- and art spaces that have called this neighborhood home. On this tour, you will also visit the De Gaspe building that houses many artist studios and artist-run centres. You will learn about the emergence of this community and its importance to Montreal and Canada at large. Along the way, you will learn about the history of the neighborhood, its hidden spots, and local treasures. Get to know the Mile End like a local.

The galleries visited will vary depending on gallery schedules and current exhibitions, but we will visit four to six artist-run centres, galleries, and ephemeral spaces.
