Overview

The name of Quinta do Canhoto in Portuguese means “left-handed” Whether by coincidence or not, many members of the family that owns Quinta do Canhoto are left-handed and this could be why there is such a strong creative component in each generation. Proof of this is the new winery, a sophisticated building designed by architect Joana Fernandes (the daughter of one of the brothers who run the farm). Inspired by the architecture of the Algarve, the winery’s basement houses all of the production technology and the storage area for the wine, while the upper floor comprises a tasting room and support bar, as well as affording a magnificent view over the vineyard and down to the Atlantic Ocean. The belief that left-handed people are generically more creative may be a myth. But it is nevertheless true that something special happens when you raise your glass in a toast with your left hand and taste a wine from Quinta do Canhoto.
