Opened in 2009, Terminal 1 operates 70% of the flights in the airport. It was designed by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill and covers more than 500,000 m2. Terminal 1 has 101 gates, 15 baggage carousels, 12,000 parking spaces, 166 check-in desks, and more than 20,000 square meters of shopping areas. With the addition of Terminal 1, the airport is now able to handle up to 55 million passengers annually.

The airport’s main building until 2009, Terminal 2 is divided into three sub-terminals, namely, A, B, and C. it was so designed to expanded just before the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Since Terminal 1 opened, Terminal 2 has been reduced to operating only low-cost or regional carriers.

AIRPORT TO CITY
