Albuquerque InternationalSunport is located just 5Km southeast of the city centre of Albuquerque in New Mexico, and is the largest airport in the state, and the main entry point for visitors to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The airport has a single Terminal building divided into 3 main concourse areas, with two for long and medium haul flights, and one that is dedicated to short haul commuter services. The airport is served by most major US airlines including American, Continental, and Delta Airlines.
As the main gateway into New Mexico, Albuquerque is a popular destination for people travelling to the area from all over the world, and is the ideal place from where to explore the state and visit some of the popular resort towns nearby. If you are planning to visit the famous mountain resort of Santa Fe, then it is a sensible idea to rent a 4WD vehicle ? especially in the winter ? to handle the roads and inclines in the area. Be mindful that these vehicles are the first to sell out, so book well in advance.
To collect your car hire at Albuquerque Airport you will need to leave the Terminal building and use the free car rental shuttle bus that operates from the arrivals area. From the centre of Albuquerque, you should initially head east on the i40 before joining the Pan American Freeway, which heads north-south just outside the city centre. Follow this road south for about a mile to the point where it meets Gibson Boulevard. Turn left and immediately right to the airport. From Santa Fe, you would head south out of town along the i84, which joins Route 25, the Pan American Freeway just out side the city. Once on that road, simply follow it as far as Albuquerque and then take the exit for the airport.
