Mahon Airport is the airport that serves the capital of Minorca, which is the Balearic Island off the coast of Spain. The airport is less than three miles southwest of Mahon, which makes it ideal for transport to the capital. The airport has just gone through some major work (finished in 2008). There are currently 28 carriers who fly to the airport, and it handles a modest one million people per annum.
Minorca is a tiny island, and it has a population of fewer than 100,000 people. One of the main reasons why it is a good idea to hire a car at the airport is because you can make sure that you see everything without fail in a car. Due to the size of the island, public transport is rather lax and this means you can spend a long time looking waiting for it to come, whereas with a car, any part of the island can be accessed in no time at all. The Island is just under 700 km2 in size, which means you can drive from one side of the island to the other in less than an hour.
There are only three hire companies located in the arrivals section of the airport. However, even though this number is low with Avis, Europcar and Hertz the airport has three quality companies servicing it.
Accessing the airport from Fornells is easy. All you need to do is follow the 723 south onto the 721 to get to Mahon. From here the airport is well signposted. As the island is so small, the airport has signposts all around it.
Contacting the airport is simple. If you want to ring them, then this is the best number to contact them on; Phone: +34 971 15 71 41. If your enquiry is less urgent then email the airport on mah.ejecutivo@aena.es, if your enquiry is less urgent.
