Oslo airport is the second busiest airport in all the Nordic countries. The airport handles over 21 million passengers per annum. One of the main reasons for this is because there are hardly any other International Airports in the area. The airport has over 30 airline carriers using it, including; KLM and British airways among others.
Hiring a car at Oslo airport is advised because the journey to the capital is over 30 miles, which means that hiring a taxi is going to be expensive and public transport will take an age. One of the best things about Norway is that the country is so scenic, and there are lots of things to do, but they are spaced out because the country is so large, which means that having a hire car is advisable. Remember, if you are going to get a car, then book early because you will more often than not get the car cheaper, and you have a better chance of getting a car that suits your needs. It is also a good idea to obtain a satellite navigation system because the benefits of having one are undeniable.
Right by the train station at the airport (in the arrivals section) you will find all the car hire companies. Avis, Budget and Hertz among other Internationaland domestic companies.
Getting to the airport is easy because it is on one of the main motorways in the country the E6. If you are on this road, follow the signs to Gardermoen (the name of the airport), then join the 174, which runs directly to the airport.
You can either ring, fax or email Oslo airport depending on how quickly you need an answer to a question from them. Their phone number is +47(0)64812000, and their email address is passasjerservice@osl.no. If you do need to send them a fax, the number for the airport is +47(0)64812001.
