Washington Dulles International Airport is located in the town of Sterling in Virginia, around 20 miles west of the city of Washington on the far side of the Potomac River. The airport was opened in 1962,and has grown into one of the largest and busiest passenger airports in the whole of North America. From the centre of Washington DC, you should follow the signs for Arlington National Memorial and the airport out of the city along the I-1 over the Potomac Bridge. Once in Virginia, you should join Route 66 as far as Westhampton where you join the I-267 airport road. Follow this road for approximately 7 miles to the Terminal entrance.
