Founded in 1952, Sde Boker is a Kibbutz(community settlement traditionally for agriculture) in Israel. It is located in the Negev desert of southern Israel. The kibbutz was named after mount Boker and stream Boker which are both close by. The Kibbutz's first settlers were members of the Military Intelligence Department during the War of Independence and members of the Ministry of Agriculture. At the time, the Kibbutz had been a shepherd farm. Currently the settlement is famous for being the retirement home of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion and it falls under the jurisdiction of Ramat HaNegev Regional Council.
