In the western San Juan Mountains, the former silver mining camp of Telluride serves as the county seat of San Miguel County in the U.S. state of Colorado. Telluride was founded in 1878 and was named Columbia but this was consequently changed due to the ambiguous name with another town in the country. It was renamed Telluride in 1887 because of the gold telluride deposits found in parts of the town. Surrounded by steep forested mountains and Cliffs, Telluride boasts of a number of attractions such as the Telluride Mountain Village Gondola, Bear Creek Falls, Main Street, Black Bear Pass, Blue Lakes Trail, Ophir Pass Trail, Telluride Ski Resort, Bridal Veil hike, Jud Wiebe Trail, Telluride Historical Museum, among others.
Only a few living creatures can be cloaked in the mystery of the Mountain Lion seen during sightseeing tours, for when in their presence they may be felt but are rarely seen or photographed due to its speed and strength. The red rock walls forested in green pines are constant sources of intrigue in the boat tours in Telluride. Exciting whitewater action is the Telluride water sports activities of rafting in the Gunnison Gorge Whitewater and San Miguel River. There is something in Telluride for everyone including adrenaline junkies as the mountains of Telluride via Ferrata await taming during outdoor activities with its rock faces up to 600 feet above the forest below and the riding in Colorado's ranch.
