Pisa FESTIVALS - SPECIAL EVENTS

Established in 1955, then held annually the aim of the festival is to summon the ancient Italian maritime republics, namely: Pisa, Venice, Genoa and Amalfi. The festival is original as four teams (each team representing each republic) compete with each other on a 2000 meters course and effectively the history becomes alive in the front of the visitors. What is special about the festival is that the location is held on rotation each year, this year is Amalfi's turn to hold the Regatta.

Pisa is a historical city full of festivals and events throughout the summer. The Gioco del Ponte is one of the greatest historical programs in Pisa, held on the last Sunday of June and aims to present a battle between two armies, Mezzogiorno and Tramontana.

Perhaps the most magical festival in Tuscany, held for honoring San Raneri, the patron saint of Pisa, - who is also the protector of the travelers -. The tradition is that on the sunset of June 16, thousands of candles that were previously put on Pisa's bridges, windows and doors are being lit up. Tourists who visit Pisa this time of summer, will be part of this absolutely magical tradition as they can see how the river Arno mirrors the candle lights. At11 pm, firework will crown the night.
